Ariel University to host Israel’s newest medical school

 

Ennett, one of the main proponents of the project, and Netanyahu have referred to the diverse student population at the university, and both have said that medical school would help fill the gaps between Israel and the Palestinians, and between different sectors Of the Israeli population.

“This is an open and plural institution where Jews and non-Jews cooperate, reflecting the true spirit of the State of Israel,” Netanyahu said. “We are building in Ariel, and Ariel will always be part of Israel.”

The University, formerly known as the Ariel Public University name, home to more than 15,000 students and 300 faculty members. In the field of health sciences, the university already offers pre-medical program and 30 research laboratories that study a variety of disorders of communication, physiotherapy and nutrition sciences.

The new medical school, the sixth part of Israel, will bear the name of Sheldon Adelson, the American billionaire, owner of Israel Hayom Roadmap and support Prime Minister Netanyahu Long and his Israeli wife, Miriam. According to Israel Hayom, the Adelsons couple donated $ 5 million to medical school, almost a quarter of the estimated value of 28.4 million.

According to the Israeli Medical Association, Israel is facing a serious health crisis largely due to the lack of authorized medical staff and vacant positions for training students. As a result, students often travel abroad to study medicine or are more likely to choose more lucrative professions in their studies.

Ariel Alcalde Shaviro described medical school as a “breakthrough” for residents of the city and the entire region, who all benefit from the institution.

“When I was working in New York, I met Dr. Sackler and was overwhelmed to meet the man who allowed me to study medicine (at the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University),” said Dr. Miriam Adelson in the ceremony. “So for me, let this happen and we are pleased and grateful to Ariel University for giving us the opportunity to give back to the community.”
