Brass Curtain Rods – While the shiny brass accessories have a very traditional look, they can easily come out with a room, making even the most modern decor look very old-fashioned. When it comes to curtain rods, shiny brass can be so eye-catching that it diverts attention from window treatments. But you do not have to pay for new curtain rods. Save money by using the brightness you have. Remove the curtain rods from your cargo.
Place a piece of 60 grit sandpaper around the bars, so that the rough side of the paper touches the bronze. Rub the brass curtain rods forward and back with this sandpaper. Repeat with 120 grit sandpaper. Moisten a soft cloth with mineral spirits and clean each rod, removing the sanding dust. Let them dry. This will adequately eliminate the brightness. Take the bars to a well-ventilated area and place a drop cloth on the floor. Spray the rods with a primer designed specifically for metal.
Turn the rods while spraying, so that even the back and forth movements with the can. Allow the brass curtain rods to dry for 12 hours. Spray the rods with the color of your choice. You can choose a traditional color such as red or blue, or paint the spray rods with a matte metallic finish like a muted bronze color. Do still, the movements up and down with your can, turning the bars as necessary so that you achieve continuous color.
